Choosing a Lawn Mower

When it comes to choosing riding lawn mowers, the size of the lawn the machine will be used on matters more than anything else. Also, the terrain of the lawn matters. If it is hilly or leveled, has small flowers and shrubs, trees and flower beds, etc. one needs to be careful with the type of small riding lawn mowers they use.

Choosing a Lawn Mower

Powerful but cheap riding lawn mowers on sale can have a much larger cut widths that can handle a large area. This makes them highly efficient, and one can spend less time mowing due to the size and the power of the machine. A small riding lawn mower like a push mower works better for any lawn that is half an acre or smaller.

Types of Lawn Mowers:
While lawn tractors have a traditional design aesthetic and work with steering wheels, they can be accessorized with attachments like bags for leaves and clippings, spread seeds, dethatch, aerate and remove snow and haul landscaping materials. Garden tractors, on the other hand, are similar in design to traditional lawn mowers but often use more ground-based attachments. They also utilize more powerful engines and transmissions that are heavy duty and can be used to mow several acres in one go.

Zero-Turn-Radius (ZTR) Mowers are also known as zero-turn mowers. They can navigate many different types of obstacles and often have front caster wheels that pivot at better angles than regular lawn mowers or garden tractors for that matter. A regular Zero-turn-radius is controlled with the help of lap bars or levers instead of the usual steering wheels, but some models can have a steering wheel too. A tractor does more than a regular ZTR, but a ZTR has high forward speed for areas that are relatively open and can manage to cut closely around trees, landscaping and flower beds.

Riding Mower transmissions can be manual or automatic. The manual ones offer different ranges of speeds that can be selected, often allowing for switching gears up or down without using the clutch.

Automatic transmission mowers work very similarly to the transmissions in a car. A gas pedal usually controls the speed, and it is a smooth progression while working to switch between different speeds. A hydrostatic transmission, on the other hand, is very similar in its working to an automatic transmission, but it uses fluid instead of belts to transfer power from the engine to the wheels, offering a smooth ride and less need of maintenance.

Some other features of riding lawn mowers include the engine horsepower that measures the output of power of the engine that is available on a sharing basis between other components of the lawnmower. Engine displacement is the size of the cylinder in the engine and is measured in cubic centimeters, which is relative to the engine power. Engine torque is measured in foot-pounds, which is the force that maintains the spin of the mower blades. To enable the user to maintain one speed for long stretches, cruise control is available with certain hydraulic and automatic transmissions too. The width of the swath of grass that can be cut by the mower in a single pass that is directly related to the blade number is known as the cut width. While ZTR and tractors may have two or three blades, small tractors usually only have one. Deck wheels are used to help maintain the mowing height across uneven terrain while the turning radius refers to the cut of the turn that the mower can handle.

Cheap riding lawn mowers sale are often set up locally to showcase and sell different types of riding lawn mowers.
